Insatiable demand forces Con Ed to cut voltage

Con Edison had to cut voltage to some Westchester County homes today as demand for electricity skyrocketed alongside temperatures.

The utility is asking people across the Hudson Valley to conserve energy wherever possible, especially their usage of air conditioners to prevent an overload on the system and possible blackouts.

Con Edison says the maximum megawatt demand ever on its system was more than 13,000 in 2006. The utility says the record may have been broken today. Weather Center Watch News 12 Watch News 12 Traffic and Weather Submit Photos/Video
