Groundbreaking held at Yonkers Raceway

A groundbreaking ceremony was held at Yonkers Raceway today to begin the casino's $40 million expansion project.

The 66,000-foot expansion includes a new wing addition to the Empire City Casino with more slot machines to attract more people.

The new building will add more space for video slot machines and new electronic table games like roulette and craps. It will also create new jobs and funnel more money into the Yonkers public school system.

Mayor Phil Amicone says the casino expansion is vital for the city, especially while it struggles with another budget crisis.

The project is expected to be completed by January.
