Varsity football to play on in Yonkers

After threats of massive budget cuts in the Yonkers School District, the lights will stay on for varsity football this fall.

District officials announced that they've come up with the funding to keep the program alive after all other sports were cut due to budget constraints.

The district has already eliminated more than 100 teachers and many other employees, while reducing services, including busing, to trim costs.

Officials won't say where the funding came from, but emphasized that they did not make further cuts to academic programs in order to fund varsity football.
