LI teen involved in AK bear mauling comes home

While the Rockland teen mauled by a bear during a survival training remains hospitalized in Alaska, a Long Island teen, who survived the attack and helped his injured friends, is now back home.

Sam Melman, 17, arrived at LaGuardia Airport for an emotional homecoming with his family yesterday. Melman, along with six others, including Joshua Berg, of New City, were in Alaska for a 30-day survival training on Saturday when they were attacked by a grizzly bear.

Berg and three other teens were seriously injured. Melman and the others who weren't hurt sprung into action, administered first aid and waited for hours to be rescued.

Berg is listed in fair condition. There is no word yet on when he will be released from the hospital.
