20 new officers added to Yonkers PD

The Yonkers Police Department added 20 new probationary officers today after a swearing-in ceremony.

The new officers are a welcome addition after the department has been stretched thin over the past few years due to ongoing budget problems and concerns about overtime costs.

Prior to the budget problems, there had been 640 officers on the force. Today, that number is closer to 610.

Police officials hope that the new recruits will eventually replenish some of the foot patrols that were cut.
