Irvington cop promoted to detective after on-the-job crash

The Irvington police officer who was critically injured during a high-speed chase with a Connecticut teenager driving a stolen car has been promoted to the rank of detective after undergoing multiple surgeries for his injuries.

Irvington Officer Luigi Osso received a standing ovation last night, and told his supporters that he's anxious to get back to the job that he loves.

"The support from everyone in the community, and complete strangers, has been overwhelming," Osso said. "I take a job where I attempt to help people, and never did I ever think I was going to need help from everyone."
