Officials: Author accused in sex-slave case tried to commit suicide

Officials say the Pound Ridge author on trial for allegedly keeping foreign girls as sex slaves tried to commit suicide.

They say Joseph Yannai is recovering from a self-induced overdose of prescription medications.

Yannai is accused of hiring live-in teenage au pairs and forcing them to perform sex acts. The writer allegedly threatened the women with violence to keep them quiet.

He was free on bail, but the judge has ordered him back into custody after he is released from the hospital.
