Hail, lightning leave trail of damage in WC

A powerful storm tore through Westchester County tonight, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

The combination of rain, strong winds, hail and lightning took down trees and power lines before quickly moving out of the region. Thousands of homes in the Hudson Valley were left without electricity and several roads were blocked, creating a traffic backup during the evening commute.

At the height of the storm, Con Edison and NYSEG were reporting more than 6,000 outages in Westchester alone. Officials said they were working to get power restored as soon as possible.
