Strong rain, wind bring damage to Hudson Valley area

Following yesterday's storm, work crews are out today cleaning up the aftermath of downed trees and tangled wires.

Throughout Newburgh, people complained of rotten, dead trees collapsing, some of them snapping in half and landing on houses and other buildings. One family said the wind and hail was so loud that they didn't hear the tree landing on its roof. Other residents reported seeing hail the size of golf balls falling.

At the height of the storm, around 3,500 people lost power. Currently, scattered outages throughout the area are being reported, and 300 homes in Newburgh are still waiting for power to be restored. Officials say all power should be back on by this afternoon.
