Yonkers residents protest tax break for casino

Taxpayers voiced their opinions last night about the possible expansion of the Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway.

The casino wants a tax abatement so it can expand by 66,000 feet.

At a public hearing at Yonkers City Hall, many people said they feel the casino makes enough money already and any money needs to be used to help Yonkers through its fiscal crisis.

After the state takes its cut of taxes, Empire City grosses about $17 million month.

The expansion and renovations still have to be voted on by the Yonkers Industrial Development Agency.
