Nanuet residents wake up to find black bear in front yard

A bear caused quite a scene in Nanuet yesterday.

The 200-pound, 4-year-old black bear was spotted in a tree on James Drive. The homeowners say the family pet may have startled the bear to climb up the tree.

Police watched him for several hours until state environmentalists showed up.

The bear was eventually shot down with a tranquilizer dart and taken back to the woods in Sterling Forest.
