Study to find if county parks are worth the money spent to run them

Everyone loves spending some time in a park, but are they worth the money Westchester County spends on them?

The independent not-for-profit group, Friends of Westchester County Parks, is funding a study to try and figure that out.

Leon Younger is a nationally recognized expert on parks and their contributions to their communities. His Indianapolis-based consulting firm has been hired by Friends of Westchester County Parks to do the study.

The report is expected to be ready by late October, around the time the county will be preparing next year's budget. Parks Commissioner Kathy O'Connor says getting hard data on the role of the parks in the county will be the key to crunching budget numbers.
