Cuomo determined to close Indian Point nuclear power plant

There's a new push by Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) to close the Indian Point nuclear power plants.

Cuomo administration officials told Entergy officials during a private meeting in Albany last week that the governor is determined to close the nuclear power plant in Buchanan.

Entergy spokesman Jim Steets says company officials hope to change the governor's mind.

One tool Cuomo has on his side is a new power plant sighting law. It could make it easier to build a conventional power plant to replace the 2,000 mega watts of electricity coming from Indian Point.

Indian Point's electric output provides as much as 25 percent of the New York Metropolitan Area's electricity.
