Cops: Orangeburg homeowner fights off 2 robbers

An Orangeburg resident is recovering after police say two men tried to rob his home on Tuesday.

Officials say Tom Brew, 43, walked in on two men ransacking his home when one of them attacked him with a bag of his own silverware.

Brew says he was able to subdue one of the men, identified as 69-year-old Jerome Brown, by punching him repeatedly and pinning him to the ground until police arrived.

Police say they arrested Brown, a felon who had previously been convicted of burglary, robbery and assault in 1986.

Investigators describe the second suspect as a middle-aged man in his 50s.

Anyone with information is asked to call Orangeburg police at 845-359-2121.
