City Council president elected new mayor of White Plains

City Council President Thomas Roach was elected the new mayor of White Plains after a special election held last night. Roach, a Democrat, replaces former Mayor Adam Bradley, who stepped down Feb. 18.

Voters are hopeful and optimistic Roach's experience both as an attorney and politician will help White Plains move forward.

"I was hopeful they liked what I had done so far, so it looks like they did and I am honored and pleased and look forward to serving them," Roach said after last night's election.

Roach will serve as mayor into 2013 and will be sworn in officially in about ten days, after the results are made official. The remaining members of the City Council will appoint a new president to replace Roach.
