Police probe threats sent to NY state lawmakers

State police are investigating after an email was sent to state lawmakers threatening terrorist-like attacks.

The email claims that news reporters, politicians and the wealthy will all be targets, and the goal is to create anarchy, officials say.

The message complains about the state government and the budget, concluding with, "Give me a chance to pull a Gabby Giffords" in reference to the Jan. 2011 attempted assassination of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) that left nine others dead.

State Sen. Greg Ball (R-Carmel) said that the threat must be taken seriously, but that he will not be deterred by it and will continue to attend public events.

State police are asking anyone with information about the email to contact them at 518-474-5330.
