Educator accused of sexual contact with boy declines court date
A former dean and assistant principal in the New Rochelle School District who allegedly had sexual encounters with a student declined to appear in court this afternoon, opting instead to be represented by his attorney.
Jose Martinez is accused of having sexual contact with a 14-year-old boy.
Martinez was the assistant principal of Jefferson Elementary School and the former dean of Isaac Young Middle School, where the incidents allegedly took place in his office last spring.
District officials say Martinez passed a criminal background check before he was hired in 2007.
Martinez's next hearing is on April 15 and the judge has ordered that he appear.
