Local travelers have mixed views on Southwest problems

Although Southwest does not fly out of Westchester County Airport, news about the airline's recent problems has travelers concerned about safety.

More than 300 Southwest Airlines flights were canceled this past weekend after a flight from Phoenix to Sacramento had to make an emergency landing Friday because a section of the roof blew off. Investigations revealed cracks in the top of the aircraft and cracks have since been found in three more planes. Seventy-nine additional planes have since been grounded for inspections, and another flight was diverted due to an electrical smell on-board.

Travelers at Westchester County Airport had differing views on the news, with some saying you have to trust that things will work, while others said they would prefer driving. However, most travelers did agree they were concerned about aircraft fatigue, and that plane inspections should be taken seriously.
