Closure of Sing Sing prison in WC eyed by lawmakers
Local officials in Northern Westchester have requested that the Sing Sing prison in Ossining be closed, saying that the Westchester penitentiary contributes very little to the local economy.
Various state, county and village politicians have formally requested the closure of the prison to Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.).
A spokesman for the governor says that while the state will consider whether Sing Sing should be shut down, they are currently reviewing all of the prisons in the state in the hopes of figuring out which, if any, should be closed.
