Archbishop Dolan celebrates HV school milestone
Archbishop Timothy Dolan was at the Sacred Heart School in Suffern yesterday celebrating the school's 100-year anniversary, while also addressing some of the issues behind the proposed closure of many local Catholic schools.
Dolan celebrated Mass yesterday with hundreds of students at the Suffern school as some 12 other local schools will have to close their doors for good.
Eight Catholic schools in Westchester are being closed, along with another four in Orange County. Dolan says that the decisions to close schools were only made in cases where there were other Catholic schools nearby at which affected students could attend classes.
Church leaders say that by consolidating students in fewer locations, they hope to make the remaining Catholic schools stronger.
