HS students use thespian talents for good cause

Members of the Sacred Heart High School drama club got the chance to share their passions with some younger students Monday morning while, at the same time, collecting donations for local parishioners in need.

The drama club sang and danced to the upbeat songs of the musical "Hairspray" in front of a crowd of some 300 elementary school students, who were each asked to bring one canned good donation in exchange for entry.

Drama club members said that Monday's performance was not only about turning on a younger generation to the joys of theater, but to also emphasize that charity is always necessary here at home, even with worthy causes around the world. "We always seem to think that struggles are far away," said club member Itoro Udo. "Doing this helps those who are close to us."
