Forum held to discuss Indian Point nuclear plant safety

A community forum sponsored by the Indian Point Safe Energy Coalition was held at the Greenburgh Town Hall last night to discuss the Indian Point nuclear power plant.

Many in attendance said they were concerned about the plant's safety in light of the continuing nuclear disaster in Japan.

Some were worried that the two active fault lines near to the plant may be a cause for concern since the facility is only built to handle a magnitude 6.0 earthquake. The recent Japanese earthquake measured a magnitude 9.0.

A spokesman for Entergy, owner of Indian Point, said that what happened in Japan is unlikely to happen locally.
