Residents near Yonkers Raceway will have to pay to park

Residents living near the Yonkers Raceway and the Empire City Casino will now have to pay to park in their own neighborhoods after city officials told them that the casino would no longer be picking up the bill for parking permits.

Parking is free at the Yonkers Raceway, but people in the surrounding neighborhoods say that raceway and casino patrons still take up all of the parking spots in their neighborhood, prompting the city to require parking permits in the area in December 2009. For the first year, residents say that the raceway would pay for their permits, but when they applied for their permits this year, they were told that they would have to pay $25 per car.

Raceway officials have not said why they aren't paying for the permits anymore. City officials could not be reached for comment on the matter.
