Case adjourned until May for WC educator accused of sex abuse
A former assistant school principal from New Rochelle, charged with having sex with a 14-year-old male student in his office, will spend the next month behind bars after his attorney requested this morning that his case be adjourned until May.
Jose Martinez, 38, waived his right to appear in court last week, opting to send his attorney instead. Investigators say that while Martinez was serving as the dean of the Isaac Young Middle School in New Rochelle, he had repeated sexual encounters with the teen between March and June of last year.
Martinez had been working as an assistant principal at Jefferson Elementary School until last month, when he reportedly disappeared, eventually turning up at a relative's home in Long Island after the alleged victim's mother went to police.
Sources tell News 12 that a forensic team has already recovered DNA evidence from Martinez' middle school office, including semen.
Martinez remains in jail with his bail set at $500,000.
