FBI: Firewalls may not be enough to deter cyber crime

The battle against cyber criminals came to Tarrytown yesterday as FBI agents arrived for a special seminar, hosted by the Westchester County Association, to help businesses protect themselves against cyber crime.

Experts say thieves are becoming bolder, and are no longer simply stealing money, but also trade secrets and other classified information that may give them an edge.

"The reason why we speak to people is our national security depends on all of our organizations keeping themselves safe from both terrorism, counter-intelligence and things like that," said FBI Agent Maryann Goldman. "When businesses protect themselves, it makes our job that much easier to protect the nation."

The FBI says more powerful cyber threats could potentially threaten critical infrastructure elements, including the nation's power grid.
