ShopRite helping WC church to rebuild after fire

There are now officially plans to rebuild an historic New Rochelle church that was destroyed by a massive fire in February, thanks to the determined efforts of church leaders, along with a little help from some local businesses.

"We're coming back to rebuild," said Pastor Reginald Hudson, of the Union Baptist Church of New Rochelle Sunday, the first day that congregants were able to revisit their house of worship after it was destroyed. "This is not how the story ends," Hudson added. "We will have a brand new church coming out of the ashes."

The New Rochelle ShopRite supermarket is helping to lend a hand to the church community by selling raffle tickets, collecting food to benefit the church's food pantry, and accepting donations at all cash registers through Saturday. There are also two benefit concerts scheduled for this month, and a walk-a-thon in June, all designed to help raise money to restore the historic church.
