Fire at Sing Sing State Prison forces evacuation of inmates

An early morning fire at Sing Sing State Prison in Ossining forced the evacuation of 700 inmates from their cell block.

The fire which started at around 3:40 a.m. was brought under control while the evacuated inmates were secured in other parts of the prison.

Officials say that all the inmates have been returned to their cells and that no injures were reported because of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
