Turkki pleads insanity in stabbing of her 2 nieces

Lisa Turrki, 40, stood before a judge in White plains today to plead "Not responsible by mental disease or defect" in the stabbing of her two young nieces while babysitting them in July of last year.

In the plea, Turrki admitted to stabbing them because of delusions she suffered. She said she thought that she was responsible for tragic world events and that people would come after her family because of the tragedies. In her mind, she felt that by killing her family members, she would be protecting them.

Turkki said that she has been suffering from mental illness since she was 15.

The judge ordered Turkki to be committed to Mid-Hudson Forensic Psychiatric Center in Orange County. She will be evaluated every two years until doctors determine she is safe to return to society.
