Rash of car vs. pedestrian crashes in HV leave 2 dead

A 68-year-old Suffern businessman was laid to rest in his hometown yesterday after he was fatally struck by a car while crossing the street in Ramapo, the fourth such accident in just one week in the Ramapo area.

Family and friends of Jeno Szvetec gathered at the Sacred Heart Church in Suffern to pay their respects to the beloved businessman who was hit by a car on Monday while trying to cross the street to meet his wife for dinner.

Last Friday, a 4-year-old boy was hit by a car on Calvert Drive in Monsey, and a 2-year-old girl was struck and killed in a supermarket parking lot in New Square just a few hours later.

Walter Petuch of Suffern says that aggressive drivers in the area are the real problem. ?They constantly gte behind me blowing the horn because they want me to go faster, but there?s people walking in the street. They want me to run them over.?

2 children struck, 1 fatally, by cars in separate Ramapo accidents
