New Rochelle track team runs 256-mile relay from D.C.

A New Rochelle track team returned home yesterday after participating in a 256-mile relay race that began in Washington, D.C. for the first time in more than two decades. Original team members of the Remington Flyers track team participated in the multi-state relay race for the first time since 1990. George Greene, who ran for the Flyers some 25 years ago, says that the race was made that much more special because he got to run it with his 9-year-old daughter.

Head coach Walter Brown said that his team had to persevere through the rain and the wind, with some participants being forced to run twice in the rain, but that it was all worth it in the end.

The team plans to donate some of the proceeds from the race to the Sound Shore Hospital's Neo-Natal Center.
