Mail menace in Irvington destroys a dozen boxes

Irvington police are investigating a rash of vandalism in the community that left a dozen mailboxes damaged or destroyed overnight.

The boxes were all on posts at the end of driveways along Fieldpoint Drive, a community that may have seen similar instances of vandalism in the past.

Homeowner Charles Chu says that his wife noticed the vandalism around 6:30 this morning as she was getting into a taxi in her driveway. Chu says that he has heard that the vandalism is something that occurs every "once in a while."

Irvington police say they do have some leads in the case, and added that the vandalism of mailboxes qualifies as a federal offense.
