Judge lowers bail for WC woman charged in mother's death

A judge has reduced bail for the Tuckahoe woman accused of kicking her elderly mother as she lay on the floor of their home, a beating that resulted in the woman's death.

Denise Castro-Cucco was arrested after she allegedly kicked her 70-year-old mother repeatedly as she lay on the floor of their Lake Avenue home on Feb. 8, and then left the woman there to die. Her mother was pronounced dead a short time later.

A judge has said that Castro-Cucco's bail is being lowered to allow her to enter a substance abuse program. Castro-Cucco has only been charged with assault, thus far, but prosecutors say there's a chance that the charges could be upgraded since her mother's death was ruled to be the result of a homicide.
