Family safe, displaced after kids smell smoke in Yonkers

A Yonkers family is staying with relatives after a two-alarm fire ripped through their home yesterday afternoon, with those inside escaping any potential injury thanks to the quick thinking of some children who happened to be playing outside at the time of the blaze.

Taiser Hamad says his family considers themselves lucky to be alive after the fire at their home at 47 Landscape Ave. just before noon Monday.

Hamad says that his children were playing in the front yard when they smelled smoke and alerted those inside the house.

No one was injured in the fire. The cause is still under investigation.
