Ambulance involved in 4-vehicle Mount Vernon accident

Officials say an ambulance on its way to an emergency call was involved in a four-vehicle accident in Mount Vernon this afternoon.

While some details remain unclear, eyewitnesses tell News 12 that a vehicle hit the ambulance with such force it caused it to flip over on its side and hit an SUV waiting at a traffic light. Another car crashed into the ambulance as well.

Two female workers were trapped in the ambulance and one was bleeding at the time of rescue. A total of nine people were injured, but officials say they appear to be non-life threatening injuries.

According to Mount Vernon police, the cause of the accident is still unknown and they are still in the process of interviewing eyewitnesses.
