WC gas station selling cheaper fuel amid rising gas prices
While gas prices are climbing ever higher nationwide, a gas station in Croton-on-Hudson is offering a different kind of fuel for under $3 a gallon.
E-85 ethanol fuel has been around for 15 years, but with rising gas costs, more motorists are paying attention.
Jim Foley, the owner of a Gulf gas station, says his decision to start selling E-85 two years ago was the right move that has since paid off.
"As a business man, I did it to differentiate myself in the market," he says. "The second reason I did it was environmental."
Most of the flex-fuel cars, which can run on either regular gas or E-85, are American-made SUVs and large trucks. Other vehicles can be converted to run on E-85 at the cost of anywhere from $400 to $1,000.
A flex-fuel vehicle has stainless steel gas lines and a stainless steel-lined tank because ethanol is more caustic than gas.
