4-alarm fire engulfs Port Chester building

More than 100 firefighters were called out this afternoon to fight a four-alarm fire at a Port Chester building on Midland Avenue.

The fire became so intense that firefighters could not enter the building to try and fight the flames, according to fire officials.

One resident said that the fire engulfed her apartment so fast that the smoke alarm didn't even sound.

All of the residents in the six apartments and the stores on the ground floor were evacuated, but the fire has left them severely damaged and uninhabitable, even causing parts of the building to collapse.

Investigators say they believe the fire started on the first floor and the building will eventually have to be torn down.
