5 charged with rioting, mischief following school melee

Five Pleasantville students are facing charges of rioting and criminal mischief for their alleged participation in a melee yesterday that resulted in four cops being injured and 11 students being placed under arrest.

Mount Pleasant Police Chief Louis Alagno says that four officers responded to the Pleasantville Cottage School yesterday afternoon on reports that a student, Reyvon Allen, was allegedly smashing windows on the campus.

?When [the student] acted out and was taken into custody, that was the flashpoint that caused the groups to begin to fight with one another and police,? Alagno said.

It took 50 officers from surrounding departments, including K-9 and aviation units, to get the situation under control. Four female students along with Allen are now facing rioting and criminal mischief charges for their alleged roles in the fracas. They are currently being held at the county jail.

The other six students who were arrested will appear in family court because they are all under the age of 16.
