Cops: Grandma gambled as child 'chilled' in car

Yonkers police say that a Syracuse woman has been arrested on charges that she left her young grandson inside of a car while she gambled at a casino.

Investigators say that when they found the 6-year-old boy alone in a parked vehicle in the Empire City Casino parking lot, he told them his grandmother, Rose Thigpen-Grant, had told him to stay inside the car while she went inside to get something.

Thigpen-Grant eventually came out of the casino almost an hour later, at which point police say the temperature inside of the car was 20 degrees. When cops told her that she was under arrest, Thigpen-Grant then allegedly tried to flee.

Cops say the boy is now in the custody of a family friend.

Thigpen-Grant has been charged with resisting arrest and child endangerment.
