Police: WC couple accused of endangering autistic kids
Police have arrested a couple from Pound Ridge for allegedly placing their two autistic sons in unsafe living conditions.
Authorities say the children of James Yates and his wife were discovered living in an unsafe environment after an incident on Feb. 11 when EMTs were called in for one of the boys suffering from a seizure.
Yates admits the house is not as tidy as it could be and that he is trying to fix it up while caring for his two autistic sons.
After an investigation, police took the couple's two sons to a state-run facility and charged the parents with child endangerment.
Ellen Gentzsch, of the Westchester Foundation for Autism, says while she does not know the couple's situation, caring for two autistic children could have caused the couple to become overwhelmed.
