SUNY Purchase profs, students protest state budget cuts

Proposed budget cuts to state colleges brought dozens of students and professors out in protest at Purchase College yesterday, concerned over what the impending cuts could mean for the quality of education at the school.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo's latest budget proposal could slash some $115 million from all state colleges, and protest organizers say that if funding at SUNY is reduced, as it is currently proposed, the college alone could stand to lose some $4 million.

Organizers say that they are planning to take a group of students up to Albany next week to urge state lawmakers to avoid cutting SUNY funding.
