NYPD cop from WC killed while on duty in Brooklyn

Family and friends are mourning the loss of an NYPD officer from Cortlandt Manor who was killed in the line of duty Sunday.

Authorities say they have arrested 42-year-old George Villanueva, a criminal with 28 prior arrests, after he allegedly shoved officer Alain Schaberger over a railing in Brooklyn. They say Schaberger broke his neck after falling approximately 9 feet and was pronounced dead two hours later at a hospital.

According to police, Schaberger was trying to place Villanueva under arrest following a domestic-violence dispute when he tried to escape while wearing only one handcuff.

Officials say Schaberger was a decorated officer with 10 years of experience. Loved ones say he lived with his fiancee and her son, with plans to marry this summer.

If convicted, Villanueva could face life in prison without parole.
