Donating to Japan? Tips to do so safely

The devastation in Japan is inspiring people from around the world to send donations to the earthquake-ravaged country, but consumer advocates want people to know that not all charities can guarantee that a donation is going to its intended recipients.

Charitynavigator.org is a website that allows potential donors to research established charities, while offering safety tips on how to donate confidently.

Text messaging has also become a popular way to contribute, as all donations are simply added onto monthly phone bills, but donors are still encouraged to research where they are donating and any extra fees that may be applied.
