Mid-terms may be at heart of Mercy College evacuation

Classes were back in session at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry today after tense moments last night following a 911 call saying that there were three armed men on campus.

Investigators say a female caller reported that the men were brandishing handguns and pointing them at a professor inside of a campus office at around 6:20 p.m.

Police were able to determine that the office in question was locked and unoccupied after having to evacuate all of the nearby buildings. Police officers, SWAT teams and K-9 units completed a thorough search of each classroom, but did not locate the suspected gunmen.

Students on campus say they believe the call, which appears to be a hoax, was made because this is mid-terms week. All evening classes were canceled as a result of the police search.

Officials say they are still conducting interviews and trying to find the woman who made the 911 call. They say it's possible she could be charged with filing a false report.
