WC students showcase talents to protest school cuts

Students from the Yonkers school district took to the stage last night in an effort to showcase their talents in the hopes of saving various programs from being cut due to budget problems in the district.

Students held a fee concert at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, showing off their talents in order to send a message that they do not want to lose programs like music and art, which are both on the chopping block.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently announced a state budget that would include sweeping cuts to all sectors, including education. The number of art teachers in Yonkers public schools has dropped some 50 percent since 2003, from 100 down to just 35.
