Mt. Vernon boys claim 9th state b-ball championship

The Mount Vernon High School boys basketball team is celebrating on multiple fronts after breaking a record by winning its ninth state championship title over the weekend.

Coach Bob Cimmino is being showered with praise after his teams huge win in Glens Falls on Sunday, taking home the state class AA basketball title for the ninth time and breaking the all-time record for the most public high school championships ever.

Players say they wanted to win not only for the team, but the school and the community as well. Cimmino says that no one was concerned with breaking any records, but to do so in the process of taking home a ninth win has left him and his team feeling numb, exhausted and elated all at the same time.

The team will travel to Albany this weekend to compete for its fifth federation championship.
