NRC agrees to make Indian Point its top priority
Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) says the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has agreed to make Indian Point its top priority when examining earthquake risk and nuclear plants.
Cuomo has been urging federal regulators to reconsider renewing Indian Point's license to operate as two state leaders traveled to Washington, D.C. to discuss the safety of the Buchanan-based power plant with NRC officials.
Entergy CEO J. Wayne Leonard said in full-page newspaper ads today that Indian Point can withstand an earthquake 100 times the magnitude of the strongest quake to ever strike the Hudson Valley. He says critics are politicizing the nuclear crisis in Japan in an effort to shut down the plant.
