Albany honors Yonkers FD, PD for scaffold rescue

The Yonkers police and fire departments were both recognized by state leaders yesterday for their teamwork during a harrowing rescue in which two workers had to be brought down from their defunct scaffolding perch some 70 stories high.

State Assemblyman Mike Spano honored the team of heroes after their heroic March 4 rescue of two workers who were suspended from a scaffold on a Yonkers skyscraper.

Federal experts are still working to determine if the scaffolding collapse was a result of worker error, employer error, or just an accident. The scaffolding company does not have any prior safety violations on its record.
