Yonkers residents on edge after string of burglaries

Police in Yonkers are warning residents of the Bryn Mawr neighborhood to stay vigilant following a string of burglaries in the area.

There have been nearly a dozen burglaries in Bryn Mawr this month alone, and homeowners say they are very concerned.

Lena D'Ambrosio says in addition to locking her doors and windows, her family has taken other precautions, including getting a dog.

Police say five homes in this neighborhood have been broken into in the last week, including two Monday night. They say in many of the cases, the residents were at home at the time of the break-ins.

According to police, the burglars are not out to harm anyone, but rather they appear to be after cash and jewelry. Investigators aren't sure if the cases are related.

Police say they have beefed up patrols in the community and are asking residents to give them a call if they see anything suspicious.
