Hastings police investigating string of home invasions

Hastings police are investigating a series of break-ins that may be tied to a string of burglaries in Yonkers.

Investigators say they responded to four robberies last Friday night in homes on Hillside, Prince and School streets, and three attempted robberies in the same area.

Police say the burglar, who they say appeared to be after cash and jewelry, entered the homes while the homeowners were inside and asleep. They say in one case, a woman woke up to find the burglar in her bedroom. She reportedly screamed and he fled without incident.

Although Hastings police say they have increased their night patrols, they say all of the victimized homeowners made it too easy for the burglar to get in by leaving their windows unlocked.

Yonkers police say 10 home invasions have been reported during the month of March alone, and in a meeting with Hastings police, say that they may have a possible suspect.
