School: No prior knowledge of educator's alleged sexual contact

The New Rochelle School Board last night tried to alleviate concerns that many parents had after an educator within the district was arrested on accusations of multiple sexual encounters with a student.

Jose Martinez, who was the former dean at Isaac Young Middle School and the assistant principal at Jefferson Elementary School, is accused of repeatedly having sexual contact with a 14-year-old boy.

Parents were concerned that Martinez's transfer from Isaac Young to Jefferson was an attempt by board members to cover up his alleged sexual misconduct prior to his arrest.

The school board president, Sara Richmond, said that the board had no prior knowledge of Martinez's alleged sexual encounters before his arrest.
